James Andersen is Co-Founder and Co-Managing Partner of Clearview Capital, LP, a control-oriented private equity firm based in Stamford, CT which he co-founded in 1999. Clearview is an industry leader in the lower middle market specializing in the acquisition and development of family-owned and entrepreneur-led businesses typically with EBITDA of less than $15 million at inception. He is involved in all aspects of the firm’s activities, is Co-Chair of the Investment Committee and serves as a Director of several Clearview portfolio companies including Pyramid Healthcare, Pediatric Healthchoice, Derby Building Products, Controlled Products, Vertikal Brands, Apothecare Pharmacy, Workforce Solutions and MBI Industrial Medicine.
During its history Clearview has established 35 platform companies and completed more than 80 add-on acquisitions while successfully exiting 20 investments. The firm is currently investing Clearview Capital Fund IV, LP, a $550 million committed fund and $108 million Clearview Capital Mezzanine Fund I, LP, both raised in June 2018. Clearview has been named a TOP 50 Leader in the Middle Market five consecutive years, is one of only 18 firms to be selected by Inc. magazine to the Top 50 Founder-friendly PE firm list both years of its publication and in 2020 was featured by Preqin as one of the world’s Most Consistent Top Performing Buyout Fund Managers.
Prior to forming Clearview, James was a Managing Director at Capital Partners, a lower middle-market private equity firm, where he led the firm's portfolio management efforts, co-managed due diligence and was responsible for significant improvements in portfolio performance. Prior to joining Capital Partners, he was a management consultant for six years with Mars & Co where he consulted to Fortune 250 companies in the consumer product, industrial and technology arenas on a wide range of strategic and operational issues. Prior to his consulting career, he spent three years as a senior field engineer and field test coordinator with Schlumberger, Ltd. stationed in Egypt.
James earned a BSE in Civil Engineering, cum laude, from Princeton University and an MBA from The Wharton School. He has been active in Princeton University alumni affairs where he served on the Advisory Council for the department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering and is past Chair of the Alumni Council Committee on Careers. He also serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of St. Luke’s School, a secular, independent day school in New Canaan, CT.
James lives with his wife and five sons in Wilton, CT.
